The Phoenix Brewers Invitational is offering beer lovers, home brewers, connoisseurs and first-timers alike to Get Crafty. Held at Heritage Square in Phoenix, on Saturday, Dec. 7, from noon until 6 p.m., 60 different lagers, ales, porters and stouts will be on hand.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample and learn about more than 25 styles of craft brews from some of the top local and national brewers. Live entertainment, beer-related vendors, beer memorabilia, home brewing demonstrations and a wide variety of local foods from some of Arizona’s best food trucks will keep guests entertained throughout the afternoon.
Greg “Fretzy” Fretz had a vision to create a signature, craft beer event in downtown Phoenix that celebrated the vast array of styles and flavors of craft beer. Unfortunately, Fretzy lost his battle with throat cancer in May 2013. His wife Stacey and the Phoenix brewer community have come together to continue the craft beer festival in Fretzy’s honor.
“We’re going to continue to fulfill Greg’s mission and share his lifetime love of all things crafty with the Phoenix community,” said Landon Evans, event coordinator.
The festival will benefit the Children In Need Foundation. A portion of the festival’s proceeds will go to the non-profit organization created and maintained by current and past members of the Active 20-30 Club of Phoenix. The Children In Need Foundation supports dozens of local groups that benefit Arizona’s children, including the Boys & Girls Club, American Cancer Society, Crisis Nursery Phoenix, Valley of the Sun School and Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters, among others.
Admission to the festival is free. Beer drinkers 21 and over will purchase a 2013 souvenir mug which comes with 12 four-ounce beer samples. Purchase your souvenir mug online before the event for $25, or the day of the event for $35. Additional beer samples will be available, priced at $2 for each four-ounce pour, or $6 for a full 12-ounce glass.
Looking for VIP status? Available to purchase online only, the $125 VIP ticket will get you an invitation to an open house, preview party on Friday, Dec. 6, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., at Phoenix Ale Brewery. Then, at the festival, enjoy access to the VIP beer garden with catered food, private bathrooms, a bocce ball playground and a meet and greet with some of the brewers.
Just blocks from the festival, the Valley Metro offers an option for safe transportation to and from the event, and for those designated drivers, as well as underage guests, a craft root beer garden will offer complimentary handcrafted sodas.
