A Taste of Something New at Blue Hound Kitchen and Cocktails

Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails at Hotel Palomar in CityScape is a contemporary, American gastro-lounge, offering traditional barbecue and hearty comfort foods with a cocktail menu created by a mastermind mixologist.

BH BarBlue Hound opened its doors in June 2012 and has been catering to the downtown Phoenix business crowd, sports fans, night scene and travelers ever since. Their recently released winter menus are sure to be a crowd pleaser for Blue Hound regulars as well as first-timers.

Executive Chef Stephen Jones has harnessed 32 years of experience in the industry and is not afraid of taking risks with his culinary creations—From his creatively named Dinosaur Kale Salad, to his Mom’s Meatloaf piled high with sweet potato salad and his Spicy Lamb Hotlinks where spicy may be an understatement for the fainthearted.

One of the most popular menu items is the Kentucky Fried Chicken Sandwich, with recipe secrets from none other than the infamous KFC. Other notable menu items include the Sweet Corn Hushpuppies and pretty much every item in the Smokebox—a barbeque haven allowing guests to mix and match their feast. (Be sure to try the Burnt End Sliders!)

Hotel Palomar’s Head Bartender and Mixologist Stephanie Teslar knows her way around spirits. Managing the drink menu for both Blue Hound and Luster Rooftop Garden, located on the third floor, Teslar has her hands full yet still finds time to mingle with bar guests and shows excitement when sharing her wealth of knowledge for what one once-thought-to-be-simple cocktails. Having working in agave fields, Teslar can tell you everything you never knew you could know about the 300 various species of agave and tequila varietals, or she can chat offhandedly about her mix suggestions for a Manhattan to fit each individual’s taste.

Teslar’s passion for what she does is contagious and it is well represented in her colorful cocktail menu—from a breakfast-appropriate Thirsty Lady with rose, cognac, bitters and sparkling wine, or the Oaxacan Punch with partida resposado tequila, brandy, house-made horchata and honeysuckle, perfect for a cold winter day or as an evening dessert.

The Artist’s Special, a popular choice off the Whiskey menu, features Copper City Bourbon with lemon, amontillado sherry and house grenadine. And the Lawless—a Bourbon cocktail in a vanilla-pipe-tobacco-smoked glass, named after a local denim company—has proved to be a crowd pleaser, both in presentation and taste.
